Memphis' First Homicide In 2009

A shooting at a convenience store has become Memphis' first homicide of 2009. It took place @ the Watkins Market in the 1000 of North Watkins, Thursday, January 1, 2009, around 10:40 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found 26 year-old Darramis Stevens on the floor of the business. Detectives say he had been shot in the chest and taken to the Med in critical condition. Stevens died at 12:56 a.m., Friday, January 2, at the hospital.

Police say the shooting stemmed from an argument between the store clerk, Yahya Murshed, and Stevens. The 37 year-old Murshed has been charged with second degree murder in this case.

I feel that it is important and necessary for everyone to know ANOTHER side of the story! The side that hadn't been told until now.

I'm getting sick and tired of hearing everyone say 'poor him' and that 'justice will be served' because he deserved it! He was just one hair away from doing the exact same thing to me. I'm not surprised that the car he was driving was stolen. I'm not surprised that he stole a bag of chips. He was a thug, a thief, a liar, a bully, a woman beater, and he was just a bad person. That's why I hate hearing everyone say what a 'good boy' he was. He WAS good- Good at being a liar, getting everyone to believe that crap.

So yes, I feel like justice has finally been served. It was time for all his wrongdoings to come back to haunt him, and it was time for his family to feel the same kind of injustice for him that my family felt for me. Sure they might say that it's unfair for me to say that because he's dead and I'm not, but I'm not the one who went out doing all of the bad things that he did. I'm not the one who beat people up, threatened their lives, and robbed them. I was just doing my job, making a living for my baby girl.

He was out on bail to begin with, for robbing me. What happened was that he agreed to plead guilty if he failed his lie detector test about the robbery. Well he failed it, but he went back on his word and still pled innocent. It's like this was karma's way of saying 'You should have kept your word and pled guilty like you promised.'

Do I think he would apologize for the robbery if he were still alive and we had the chance to talk person to person? No. I KNOW he wouldn't, because he was still pleading innocent, so as far as he was concerned, he didn't do anything wrong, even though the lie detector test said he was guilty.

Something I find ironic is how we were both the same age, we both had a little girl the same age, and we were both engaged. He was even burried on the same day as my fiance's grandpa, so we both had funerals that day.

After getting beaten up and having to go to court date after court date, I felt like I was never going to be avenged, but I guess this is the most ultimate revenge of all. I thought I would share the irony of the story, how neither the robbery or this event was tied to each other, but how they had more in common than anyone realizes.

Here's the robbery news story, by the way:
